Room maps, no-go zones and mop care: plan a robot-vacuum routine
The useful upgrade is a repeatable route through your actual home.

Map an accessible floor, decide where the mop belongs and budget for the care that auto-emptying does not perform.
Start with the route, not the suction headline
Sketch the rooms the robot should reach during a typical run. Mark narrow chair legs, rugs, cables and thresholds. A navigation system can plan only around the accessible environment it encounters; a room behind a closed door is still outside that run. Decide whether you want whole-floor cleaning or a repeatable sequence of selected rooms.
The Q7 M5+ uses PreciSense LiDAR and app room controls. Its advertised 10,000Pa suction is a specification, not a standardized comparison of every kind of floor pickup. Route coverage, brush contact and floor preparation also affect useful cleaning. Do not choose solely by the largest number printed next to Pa.
Give the dock a permanent home
Choose a powered location with the clearances required by the exact instructions. Leave a usable approach and enough access to remove the dust bag. A station squeezed behind furniture may look tidy but make returning, servicing or checking its lid awkward. Think through those movements before deciding that the dock fits.
The selected dock uses a 2.7-litre bag for dry debris. Its seven-to-nine-week description is conditional. A shedding pet, frequent runs or a dusty room can change how quickly that bag fills. Schedule an inspection based on actual use instead of treating the longest headline as a guaranteed replacement date.

Prepare the first map deliberately
Set up the app on a compatible 2.4GHz network and follow the model’s mapping instructions. Open the intended routes and move temporary obstructions. Once a map exists, check that the room divisions match how you want to clean. Correct a confusing room label before it becomes a recurring schedule mistake.
Use no-go zones to express restrictions that fit the supported app controls. They are an additional planning tool, not a substitute for removing hazardous items or checking the floor. Keep cables and unsuitable debris out of the route, and revisit the map when furniture or room access changes substantially.
Make a separate plan for the mop
The selected Q7 M5+ offers three water-flow settings for its mopping function. Decide which hard-floor areas can accept a damp pass under the flooring manufacturer’s guidance. Plan around rugs and other surfaces that should stay dry. Follow the exact attachment and removal sequence rather than assuming every Q-series model handles carpets identically.
Dust auto-emptying does not identify a mop-washing or drying station. Water handling and pad care remain separate tasks. After an appropriate run, follow the instructions for removing, washing and drying the pad and storing the tank. A larger dock does not eliminate those wet-component responsibilities.
Build a small recurring care checklist
Inspect the brush area, side brush, wheels, sensors and filter on the model’s recommended schedule. Anti-tangle design is useful, but it does not prove that hair can never collect. Check the areas that actually accumulate debris in your home, especially after the first few runs and after changes in pet shedding.
Keep compatible bags and any planned replacement parts accessible. Compare that ongoing supply cost with a bagless alternative before buying. The Q7 M5+ makes sense when mapped rooms, dry-debris collection and occasional hard-floor mopping solve recurring tasks together. If only one of those matters, a simpler dry robot may be sufficient.
Your quick checklist
- Dock approach and service access measured
- 2.4GHz network available
- First map checked room by room
- Rugs separated from the mop route
- Bags, filters and pad care planned
